First contract in UK
The water industry is focusing significant investment on nutrient removal enhancements, particularly targeting phosphorus. The country is also facing the persistent perils of pathogens in rivers and on beaches. This recent BBC News article cites major concerns over “superbugs”, mutated pathogens resistant to medicines following a history of untreated / semi-treated sewage discharges around the country. There is limited sewage disinfection in some sensitive coastal areas.
With higher levels of treatment required to remove phosphorus, pathogens and a host of persistent organic chemical pollutants (pesticides, pharmaceuticals, PFAS, micro-plastics, etc.), adequate treatment is becoming more and more expensive, especially for smaller communities.
ALGAESYS is alleviating the burden of nutrient, pathogen and persistent pollutant removal. We deliver complete treatment of raw sewage with our low energy, low lifecycle cost phototrophic system that specifically excludes non-photosynthetic bacteria from the process. We have achieved consistently less than 1000 cfu / 100ml E. coli without any further treatment steps – and with a small supplemental module can target 1 cfu / 100 ml.
With ALGAESYS, affordable water reuse will become a practicable reality!
